The 21st Century Business Herald reporter noticed that since December, the two provinces and autonomous regions with the most concentrated grid-connected large-scale energy storage power stations are Shandong and Ningxia.
As a major province of industrial electricity consumption, Shandong is one of the first regions in China to participate in the pilot construction of the electricity spot market, and it is also the first province in China where independent energy storage power stations participate in the electricity spot market.
On December 21, the Shandong Provincial Energy Bureau issued the “2022 Market-oriented Grid-connected Project List”, including 54 photovoltaic projects with a total installed capacity of about 6.93GW, and a total energy storage scale of about 2.7GW/5.5GWh. As an important Regulatory resources, after five shared energy storage power stations connected to the grid last year, Shandong has approved 25 demonstration projects this year, continuing to become a popular energy storage market in China.
Since the beginning of this year, Ningxia has also given the “green light” for the construction of energy storage power stations.
As the country’s first new energy comprehensive demonstration zone, Ningxia expects the installed capacity of new energy to reach about 31.62 million kilowatts by the end of the year. 10% is equipped with energy storage, and the basic scale of energy storage needs to reach 3.16 million kilowatts.
“We have sorted out the 32 million-kilowatt stock and the energy storage situation of new energy projects under construction, as well as the construction progress of more than 10 million kilowatts of energy storage projects that have been filed, and submitted the relevant information to the Development and Reform Commission of the Autonomous Region to provide guidance for accelerating the construction of energy storage facilities. It is estimated that by the end of this year, Ningxia will also put into operation 19 new energy stations, and the installed capacity of new energy will exceed 30 million kilowatts, accounting for more than 50%, making it the largest power source in the region’s power grid. At the same time, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region expects to put 8 energy storage power stations into operation in the region to continue to improve the flexible adjustment capability of the power grid. While promoting the consumption of new energy, it will alleviate the pressure of peak power supply and ensure the safe and reliable supply of energy and power in winter in the region.
On December 7, the first batch of grid-side liquid-cooled large-scale energy storage projects in Ningxia—the China National Nuclear Corporation Concentric Spring 100MW/200MWh energy storage power station was connected to the grid, becoming the first grid-connected energy storage project in Ningxia. Six days later, Ningxia Muhe No. 1 Energy Storage Power Station was also connected to the grid. This project is also the largest independent energy storage power station that has been put into operation in the country so far.
With Ningxia Muhe 200MW/400MWh new energy storage power station and Ningxia Jingnengxuanhe 150MW/300MWh energy storage project being connected to the grid and put into operation at the end of December this year, it also marks the two largest grid-side large-scale storage projects in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The power station has entered the commercial operation mode.
Not only that, in order to connect to the grid before the end of the year, new records for energy storage projects have been born frequently in many places across the country.
The largest single centralized (shared) energy storage power station in Hubei Province was officially connected to the grid for power generation in December; the first full-capacity grid-connected 100,000-kilowatt energy storage power station in Hunan Province took only 69 days from breaking ground to full-capacity grid connection, creating A new industry record for the construction of energy storage power stations.
The research report of Huafu Securities pointed out that at the end of the year, energy storage power stations entered the peak of grid connection, and many large storage projects were officially connected to the grid, and the prosperity of energy storage power stations continued to improve. Policies such as energy storage market entities participating in power spot transactions, capacity leasing, and auxiliary services are gradually implemented, the certainty of profitability is improved, and the economy of domestic large-scale storage is enhanced.
According to a research report released by CICC, under the compulsory allocation and storage policy of new energy in various provinces in China, the high growth of wind and solar installed capacity directly drives the large storage volume before the table. At present, more than 20 provinces in China have proposed new energy allocation and storage requirements, and the installed capacity of wind and solar has increased, and the proportion of allocation and storage and the duration of allocation and storage have increased. The bank expects that in 2023, the domestic demand for off-meter large storage will increase by 126% year-on-year to 27.9GWh, and off-meter industrial and commercial energy storage is expected to achieve higher economic efficiency as the peak-to-valley price difference between provinces widens.
