At 14:29 on December 15, 2022, Zhao Zisen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an expert in optical fiber communication, former vice president and chief engineer of Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications, died in Wuhan at the age of 91 due to invalid treatment.
Zhao Zisen was born in Shanghai in February 1932. He graduated from the Telecommunications Department of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1953. In 1995, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Served as Chief Engineer of Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, Vice President of Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, Senior Technical Advisor of Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, Vice Chairman of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Association, General Team Leader of Optical Fiber Communication Expert Group of State Science and Technology Commission, etc. .
Zhao Zisen is the main founder and recognized pioneer of my country’s optical fiber communication technology. He “pulled out” my country’s first practical quartz optical fiber; he created my country’s optical fiber communication technology program. As the technology leader, Wuhan Academy of Postal Sciences built my country’s first optical cable communication project and an optical fiber communication line connecting the whole country. Contribution, known as “the father of China’s optical fiber.” He is also the main advocate and promoter of “China Optics Valley”.
Zhao Zisen has been “running” in the field of scientific research all his life. He often said: “Technology is always developing. If we don’t hurry up, we will fall behind others. China’s current optical fiber has accounted for half of the world’s optical fiber market. Next, we will Use new materials, make higher-level optical fibers, and continue to lead the world.”
