There are three types of switches: pure electrical ports, pure optical ports, and some electrical ports and some optical ports. There are only two types of ports, optical ports and electrical ports. The following content is the relevant knowledge of switch optical ports and electrical ports sorted out by Green Technology.
The optical port of the switch is generally inserted into the optical module and connected to the optical fiber for transmission; some users will also insert the electrical port module on the optical port and connect the copper cable for data transmission when the electrical port of the switch is insufficient. At present, the common switch optical port types are 155M, 1.25G, 10G, 25G, 40G and 100G, etc.;
An electrical port module has been integrated inside the electrical port of the switch. There is no photoelectric conversion process. The interface type is RJ45, which can be transmitted only by inserting a network cable to connect to the electrical port. At present, the common switch electrical port types are 10M/100M/1000M and 10G. The network speed of 1000M and below can use Category 5 or Category 6 network cables, and the network environment of 10G should use Category 6 and above network cables.
The difference between the optical port and the electrical port of the switch;
①The transmission rate is different
The transmission rate of the common optical port can reach more than 100G, and the maximum rate of the commonly used electrical port is only 10G;
②The transmission distance is different
The farthest transmission distance when the optical port is inserted into the optical module can reach more than 100KM, and the farthest transmission distance when the electrical port is connected to the network cable is about 100 meters;
③ Different interface types
The optical port is inserted into an optical module or an electrical port module. The common interface types include LC, SC, MPO, and RJ45, and the interface type of the electrical port module is only RJ45.
