How many meters can the effective transmission distance of network cable and optical fiber reach?

Network cable transmission distance

Category 5 and Category 6 are all 100 meters long. Some friends also use 120 meters and 150 meters, but they don’t advocate it, because it is written in the specification that the distance should not exceed 100 meters. If you want to increase the transmission distance, a repeater can be installed between two sections of twisted pair, up to 4 repeaters can be installed. If 4 repeaters are installed to connect 5 network segments, the maximum transmission distance can reach 500m.

Fiber transmission distance

1 Transmission rate 1Gb/s, 850nm (fiber diameter)

a. The transmission distance of ordinary 50μm multimode fiber is 550m,

b. The transmission distance of ordinary 62.5μm multimode fiber is 275m,

c. The transmission distance of the new 50μm multimode optical fiber is 1100m.

2 Transmission rate 10Gb/s, 850nm,

a. The transmission distance of ordinary 50μm multimode fiber is 250m,

b. The transmission distance of ordinary 62.5μm multimode fiber is 100m,

c. The transmission distance of the new 50μm multimode optical fiber is 550m.

3. Transmission rate 2.5Gb/s, 1550nm,

a. The transmission distance of g.652 single-mode optical fiber is 100km,

b. The transmission distance of g.655 single-mode optical fiber is 390km

4 Transmission rate 10Gb/s, 1550nm,

a. The transmission distance of g.652 single-mode optical fiber is 60km,

b. The transmission distance of g.655 single-mode optical fiber is 240km

5 The transmission rate is 40Gb/s, 1550nm,

a. The transmission distance of g.652 single-mode optical fiber is 4km,

b. The transmission distance of g.655 single-mode optical fiber is 16km

  Remark:

1. 1000base-SX: It is a single fiber 1000Mbps baseband transmission system. 1000BASE-SX also corresponds to the 802.3z standard and can only use multimode fiber. The optical fibers used in 1000BASE-SX are as follows: the wavelength is 850nm, which is divided into 62.5/125μm multimode fiber and 50/125μm multimode fiber. Among them, the maximum transmission distance using 62.5/125μm multimode fiber is 260m.

2. 1000BASE-LX: LX stands for long wavelength, and the fibers used mainly include: 62.5 μm multimode fiber, 50 μm multimode fiber and 9 μm single mode fiber. Among them, the maximum transmission distance using multi-mode fiber is 550m, and the maximum transmission distance using single-mode fiber is 3 kilometers.

Everyone should be clear about the effective transmission distance of network cables and optical fibers, right?
